The Ultimate Diaper Bag Checklist: Newborn Edition

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! As a first-time mom, having the right supplies on hand when you're out and about with your newborn is a must! Your diaper bag is your portable survival kit, so being prepared with all the essentials is key. Here's a checklist of must-have items to keep in your diaper bag (our diaper bag fave here):

Diapering Supplies

- Disposable diapers (at least 6-8)

- Diaper rash cream (choose the travel size unless you want to tote a tub)

- Baby wipes (1-2 travel packs)

- Changing pad (invest in one with a waterproof lining - Skip Hop and this one are great portable options)

- Plastic bags for soiled diapers

Clothing

- 2-3 onesies or outfits

- Socks or booties

- Muslin swaddle blankets (for swaddling, burp cloths, and impromptu nursing covers, this one is a mom favorite)

- Lightweight jacket or sweater

Feeding Supplies

- Burp cloths (2-3)

- Nursing cover (if breastfeeding, so you can latch without the side-eye)

- Bottles with pre-measured formula

- Bottle brush and soap for cleaning

- Insulated bottle cooler (for keeping extra formula or milk fresh)

Health & Grooming

- Thermometer (we like Fridababy)

- Nasal aspirator (try NoseFrida or this one)

- Hand sanitizer (you'll use this more than you think)

- Tissues

Soothing Supplies

- Pacifiers (2-3, for when all else fails, we love Ninnico)

- Small soft toy or rattle (to entertain during diaper changes)

- Portable white noise machine (to drown out the world, Yogasleep Hush is a cult-favorite)

Mom Essentials

- Healthy snacks and water bottle

- Extra nursing pads (avoid obvious milk stains, we love anything Momcozy)

- Makeup/toiletries for quick touch-ups

- Extra shirt or nursing tank

- Phone charger

- Wallet with IDs, insurance cards, etc. (you'll need these more than you think)

The key is to overpack a bit at first until you get the hang of what you really need and use. Also, don’t forget to repack your bag. I always recommend repacking your diaper bag when you get home from an outing. When you’re rushing out the door to get somewhere with your baby, it’s so nice to know that you’ve already done your due diligence to make sure you have all of the essentials! Having all these supplies on hand will give you peace of mind, and you'll be prepared for anything your adorable baby throws your way!
